A popular sport utility vehicle that commenced production in 1982, the Mitsubishi Pajero, a product of Mitsubishi Motors, is well known all over the world. A popular ‘grey import’ that entered the UK market from Japan, the Pajero was initially looked on with a certain amount of scepticism. It took a few enthusiasts to come together and generate popularity for this SUV, which then caught on gradually.
Initially, the Pajero was launched as a three-door vehicle with an option of petrol or a diesel engine. Although features like power steering, suspension seats, front double wishbone suspension etc were also introduced, it did not catch up with the expectations of people, especially in terms of reliability. Till 1991, the vehicle witnessed many alterations and additions to increase its overall efficiency, which bore considerable results.
The Second Gen Mitsubishi Pajero had a distinct advantage through the introduction of the Super Select 4-wheel drive (SS4) with multimode ABS that was a class apart from its predecessors due to the convenience of switching between the two-wheel drive and the four-wheel drive, at great speeds. The Pajero Evolution was introduced in this generation, and resulted in the start of a new range of power packed vehicles.
The next generation of the Mitsubishi Pajero which was made available from 2001 onwards, was a completely altered, resulting in a uni-body construction that gave the body more torque and led to increased safety standards. Renamed the Super Select 4WD II with an option of three transmissions, it was fitted with a 3.8 litre SOHC 24-valve V6 engine with ETV that provided a powerful and heady driving experience.
The Mitsubishi Pajero is now into its fourth generation which is a real stunner with fabulous interiors that totally go with the stylish body and muscular structure. This Euro IV version also added the ASTC system which definitely enhances its performance to a great extent.
